With police operations underway, uncertainty around Emergencies Act continues

The federal government’s Emergencies Act requires insurance companies to “immediately cease” auto insurance coverage to Freedom Convoy protestors. But the act is noticeably silent on whose insurance should be suspended or how it should be done. All that is known at the moment is that the Emergencies Act trumps notice of cancellation requirements established in provincial law.

How the Emergencies Act is to be enacted is a hot topic in the Canadian P&C industry.

Kadey Schultz of Schultz Frost LLP says the act could cause “long-tail financial” effects for both insurers and insureds.

Read the full article in Canadian Undewriter by clicking on "Read Now", above.

Music Heals 11 - The Finale!

Again, and for the last time, please join us to make this a grand finale to remember! Bring your colleagues, bring your friends, bring your family and bring your energy – it’s going to be an epic night of FUN(draising)!

Hosted with love and in support of our friend Kadey Schultz and her family, and for all families fighting to end Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). All proceeds will go to the Biggar Endowment for Muscular Dystrophy at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital.

2012 marked the inaugural Music Heals event organized in honour of Kadey’s son Emery, who was diagnosed with DMD. DMD is the most common fatal genetic disorder diagnosed in childhood. It mostly affects boys and most only live into their twenties. However, research is moving in leaps and bounds. We are that much closer to a cure.

Did you know that Emery was part of a drug trial run through Holland Bloorview that was made doable because of Music Heals? Did you know it was successful and the drug has now been approved by the FDA? Did you know that Emery just turned 18, and is living his best life with the help of all of you? It’s true.

All of this has been made possible by amazing donors and supporters like YOU. Together, we will rock the night away with United Soul Nations. Even though the kids have grown up, we are beyond thrilled to have Lily and the J’s return to belt out a few crowd pleasers to this exceptional audience. We are also thrilled to have The Remakes join us this year! Please warm up your vocal chords to sing along all ‘eve! And back by popular demand, there will be a silent auction with great prizes.

Thank you for choosing to join us again for the grand finale of Music Heals! We look forward to seeing you June 11th at the new and accessible TD Music Hall – Allied Music Centre as part of Massey Hall!

When: Wednesday, June 11, 2025, 7 p.m. A limited number of tickets are available at the door.

Where: The TD Music Hall 178 Victoria St, just behind Massey Hall

Capes for Kids – A Cause Close to Our Hearts

At Schultz Law Group LLP, giving back is at the core of who we are. We’re honoured to support Capes for Kids, Holland Bloorview’s annual superhero-themed fundraiser dedicated to empowering children and youth with disabilities.

A deeply personal passion fuels our commitment—our founder, Kadey Schultz, serves on the Holland Bloorview Foundation Board and co-chairs the League of Extraordinary Insurance Women, a powerhouse team within Capes for Kids. Inspired by her son Emery’s experience living with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and Holland Bloorview’s transformative care, Kadey helped launch the League in 2018—and since then, the group has raised an impressive $384,000 over seven years, including over $75,000 in 2024.

Each spring, our team rallies—sporting red capes, sharing stories, and raising vital funds to support therapy, mobility aids, research, family supports, and more.

Our involvement reflects our values: compassion, community and making a meaningful impact.
