Karly is an Associate Lawyer at Schultz Law Group LLP. She was called to the bar in Ontario in 2021 after completing her articles at the Ministry of Labour, Training, and Skills Development and working as a staff lawyer at both Kensington Bellwoods Community Legal Services and Legal Assistance of Windsor. During her articles and her first years of practice, Karly appeared before various tribunals and gained valuable litigation experience.
Karly attended the University of Windsor and graduated with her JD in 2020. While at Windsor, Karly was an overly involved student. She worked at Community Legal Aid for her 1L and 2L year, and was an inaugural student at the Class Action Clinic in her 3L year. Karly also sat on the SLS in her third year as a student representative, ran the Mental Health and Wellness Initiative for all three years, and was a research assistant for three professors. In her 3L year, Karly won a Top Oralist prize at the Winkler Class Action Moot and her peers awarded her the JW Whiteside Award.
Before her legal studies, Karly was the manager of the Accident Benefits Department at a personal injury firm in St. Catharines, Ontario. It is this position that has drawn Karly back to civil litigation.
Beyond the law, Karly can usually be seen running around Hamilton with her children, working in her garden, exploring the library, doing Pilates, or baking something delicious. Karly is involved in her local community and volunteers as an English tutor to newcomers to Canada through the Hamilton Public Library. Karly also runs Legal Listing, a legal podcast (currently on hiatus) focused on open access, accessibility, and access to justice.
